The New Troubadours

Lyrics - In My Name:

The Vintage Best of The New Troubadours CD

IN MY NAME (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

Joy is My Name!
Joy that sings when sap runs high,
Leaps from mountains to the sky;
Joy that laughs while the heavens sing,
Joy that moves through everything!
Joy is My Name!

[Chorus]
Where two or more are gathered
In My Name,
There I am in the midst of them.
Be My Name!

Love is My Name!
Love that lives in a mother’s care,
Sings in kisses lovers share;
Love that greets a lonely soul,
Makes him one with the cosmic Whole!
Love is My Name!

[Chorus]

Peace is My Name!
Peace that lies on the world at dawn;
Peace of the heart when fear is gone.
Peace of the oceans, still and deep;
Peace of a baby fast asleep.
Peace is My Name!

[Chorus]

Life is My Name!
Life that lies in the silent earth,
Thrills each seed to vibrant birth;
Life that knows no end, no death,
Surging on with cosmic breath!
Life is My Name!

Together all my children!
Be My Name!
Give me birth in the midst of you.
Be My Name!
Where two or more are gathered
In My Name,
There I am in the midst of them.
Be My Name!

CHANGE CAN COME (Words and Music by Lark Batteau)

Change can come in the twinkling of an eye,
In the ripple upon a lake.
Change can come in the color of a flower,
In the sparkle of morning dew,
When the Light catches you.
In that tiny moment, you are transformed.

And the radiance of Christ
Shines forth in reply
From within, and has made itself known,
And from the two is born
A new world.

Come, let us join
Our many golden flickering
And create one Light,
Together,
Forever.

THE LOVE AFFIRMATION (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

From the heart of me that is the Heart of God,
Love streams forth to all my worlds,
And I am One.

From the Light we share within the Mind of God,
Love streams forth to all our worlds,
And we are One.

From the race of Man where flames the Will of God,
Love streams forth to all his worlds
And Man is one.

Form the All in All that is the Life of God,
Love streams forth—God’s Plan made real—
And All are One.

With God as our Beloved,
We are the Plan on Earth.

PAN AND JESUS (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

On Christmas morning, so they say,
Pan sat down, his pipes to play,
This god of fairies, sprites and elves,
Of woodlands, fields, of streams and dells,
He played his pipes and the sap ran high
While rivers coursed down the mountain side.
The deer ran with joy and flowers swayed—
Nature danced while the great Pan played.

But on this morning, so they say,
A new god came, his flute to play.
Jesus by name, he was young and fair
With golden sunlight for his hair.
He sat with Pan on the side of the hill
And as he spoke all the world was still:
“You ask who I am, my brother Pan?
I am the song of the birth of Man!”

He raised his flute and he played his song.
It was as if the world had gone.
In its place was a blazing Light,
A new star flaming in the depths of night.
And from that Light came a mighty sound,
The song of Life freed from all its bounds,
The song of the One by whom the earth was made.
All this was there when Jesus played.

“Hey, Hey Jesus, your song is good!
Its tune goes well with my rocks and wood.
It moves my heart and fulfills my dreams.”
So spoke the god of the fields and streams.
Then both these gods, one young, one old,
They picked up their pipes and they played twofold.
They played as one that Christmas morn,
And that is how our new world was born!

Love One Another (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

What does it take to build a world?
What makes a planet grow?
What does it take to live a life?
Some men will never know.
They seek this truth in deeds of renown,
In climbing a mountain, in ruling a town,
While the greatest deed is this truth itself:

Love one another, love one another,
Love one another, love…

Life is a joy for all to share,
So Leave your prison house of self
And walk a world that you’ve never known.
Love will open its hidden realms
And show you the face of the true self you are,
Son of the cosmos, daughter of stars.
Godliness is yours when love is what you are.

Love one another, love one another,
Love one another, love….

Reach our across the fears
That come between us and divide
And break apart the life we share.
Find the secret self you hide
And share it with mine in knowing and trust.
The world is waiting for people like us
To cherish it with love and help it to be free.

Love one another, love one another,
Love one another, love…

LET NEW WORLDS GROW (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

Let new worlds grow from us,
Rocks, trees and swaying grass,
Oceans and mountains and lands in between.

Let there be beasts to run.
Birds soaring to the sun.
Let there be fishes to play in the sea.

Let there be winds to blow.
Let there be seeds to grow.
Streams to laugh merrily as they run.

Let us build the form
That this dream may be born
Of a world filled with many lives,
Lives that are One.

FREE   (Words and Music by Lark Batteau)

You’ve been wand’ring this road so long
Wondering where you’re going.
You saw a light along the way,
It’s been ever growing.

He wants to be….

I saw a light within your eyes;
I know your hear, it beats for me.
My inner heart, it beats for thee,
Knowing Love’s eternity.

She wants to be….

I say to you, O, turn your eyes,
Darlin’ look another way!
Look inside yourself and find
A greater love, a brighter day.

Forever after you shall see
The Light’s in all—it’s not me.
Forever after you shall know
The Life within which lets you go,

So we can be…Free.

In the Beginning (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

Word!
The Word!
In the beginning was the Word!

In the beginning was the Word,
And I am that World!
My being is the song of God
And my melody is endless.

I am His Voice,
Infinitely resonating.
I am the rhythm of new creation,
The promise of a greater glory.

I am the Song of Love.
I am the Dance of Life.
I am One with All,
I am the Word made flesh!

In the beginning was the Word,
And I am that Word!

Word!
The  Word!
In the beginning was the Word!

Canticle (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

How gracious, Beloved,
Your presence within me;
How beautiful your song
In my soul.

How splendid, Beloved,
Your sun high above me,
Mirroring within me,
Gentle and warm,
A love that awakens
My heart to the soul
Of wind-life, Beloved,
And dreams….

How wondrous, Beloved,
Your dream-life unfolding
In lives that are singing
With my soul.
Their songs is your laugher
And life is your smile,
A smile that is wholeness
And Love….

How joyous, Beloved,
My presence within you,
Embracing all others
In my soul.

Like sunlight and rainfall,
Expanding, embracing,
How gracious the presence
We share.

Where There Is A Will (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

[Chorus]
Where there is a will, there is a wont.
Where there is a do, there is a don’t.
We’re on our own for good or ill
To learn the lessons of free will.
Where there is a will, there is a won’t.

How very nice it was for you
When someone else told you what to do.
Choosing is the way to grow
Because your free will makes it so.

[Chorus]

What a way that this can be
For you to learn responsibility.
It may fill you with suspense
But baby, you can’t sit on that fence!

You may think free will is nice
But every choice will have its price.
So learn to use a little sense
Because you get the consequence!

 [Chorus]

Happy Song (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

Some people want to change the world,
Some people don’t.
Some people want to change themselves,
Some people won’t.
But I’ll just sing a happy song
And let the world come dance along,
But if it doesn’t, I’ll keep on
To where my happy song belongs,
To where my happy song belongs!

 Winds change the clouds,
 Rivers change the meadowlands
 By being themselves,
 By being a happy song!

Some say a new world’s being born
And if that’s true,
That world is born from what we are
And what we do.
So let us be a song of cheer,
A happy song that all can hear,
And they can follow if they dare
To where our happy song is shared,
To where our happy song is shared.

Like rain from seas,
New worlds rise from humankind,
So come if you please,
And join this happy song of mine.

Just whistle a tune,
A tune that’s made for strollin’ along!
New worlds will come soon
By being a happy song!  A happy song!

I Dreamed a Dream   (Words and Music by Patti Weber Lightstone)

I dreamed a dream a long time ago
‘Bout a land where the rivers run wild,
Where flowers grow wherever they choose
And the breezes flow gentle and mild.
Where the trees stand in silence yet singing their song
In natural harmony;
Where the earth freely gives to nurture all life
And creation is boundless and free.

I dreamed a dream a long time ago
About people who know how to live.
Their words and their deeds are simple and pure,
And their love they most willingly give.
Each day of their lives is a reverent prayer,
Their joy fills each moment with light,
And the peace found within is reflected without
Like a day softly echoed by night.

My dream slowly fades with the passing of time,
Yet my vision grows clearer each day.
I know what a wonderful world it will be
When we each learn the part that we play.
But each one of us must find the truth for ourselves
And live it the best that we can,
And I’ll sing my song just as you will sing yours.
What a beautiful vision for Man.

The River (Words and Music by Lark Batteau)

I am the river running free,
On and on and on and on and on to the sea.
I am the river running free,
On and on and on and on and on to the sea.

And I can see,
And I can see….

Look what I see:  my brothers, the trees,
They grow so fast they play with the breeze,
They play with the breeze,
My brothers, the trees….

Look what I see:  my sisters, the clouds,
They fly so high, they open their eyes
And shed their tears;
They shed their tears….

And I am the river running free,
On and on and on and on and on to the sea.
I am the river running free,
On and on and on and on and on to the sea.

And I can see,
And I can see….

Look what I see:  my father, the sun;
He warms the earth till the day is done,
The day is done;
My father the sun….

And I am the river running free,
On and on and on and on and on to the sea.
I am the river running free,
On and on and on and on and on to the sea.

And I can see,
And I can see….

Winds of Birth (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

I lie on the hill.
The winds blow about me,
Caressing me with change,
Touch of new birth.
I hear the winds,
The soft voice of whispers.
“Rise up from your dreams,”
They seem to call me,
“Rise up to the stars.”

Destiny’s winds,
Do men feel you stirring
A life deep within them,
A life of rebirth?
Do men feel your touch
And rise from their slumbers?
Do men hear you whisper
Very softly,
“Come be born with me.
Come be born with me!”

Who is being born
That winds again are blowing
With promises of change,
Winds of new birth?
The winds fill the world,
A world fresh with dawning,
Singing in the morning
Of a new Man,
“Man is being born!
Man is being born!
Man is being born!
Man is being born!”

Song of the Avatars (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

When righteousness declines
And wickedness is strong,
In the dying of an age
As a new age comes along,
That is when I rise again
And yet again to light the flame
Of truth within the sons of men.

I am Light.
I am Truth.
I am the fire of the Son.
I am the hope of all the earth,
The spirit of the One.

When men have lost their way
And know not where to turn,
And the future seems to end
Where the fires of hatred burn,
Then let men look within
To see the rising of my flame
Of love to light the way again.

I am Love.
I am Truth.
I am the power of the Son.
I am the Light within all men
The spirit of the One.

When darkness seeks to hold
The hears of men in fear,
When men cry out for help
And no one seems to hear,
That is when I rise again
To shatter forms enslaving men
To let a newer world be born.

I am Light.
I am Truth.
I am the freedom of the Son.
I am the destiny of Man,
The triumph of the One.

Festival of Light  (Words by David Spangler; Music by Milenko Matanovic)

This is the festival, the festival of Light,
Sing for the candles burning brightly in the night.
Sing for the light of love that guides our destiny.
Sing for the light of life that builds community.

Sing for the wise ones, men and women who
Light up our way with visions that are true.
Sing for the children who are candles of the dawn,
Giving us the promise that our light will carry on.

This is the festival, the festival of Light.
Sing for the love that shall make this world ignite,
Aflame with a beauty that awaits in every heart.
Sing for the will that can make that fire start!

Follow the Light that leads within us to the birth
Of love and harmony and peace for all upon the earth.

We are the festival, we are the Light,
We are the candles burning brightly in the night.

We are the festival, we are the Light!
We are the candles burning brightly in the night.

We are the festival, we are the Light!
We are the candles burning brightly in the night….
